Story synopsis

After work, He Rui listens again to the interview Gu Yuan recorded for the restaurant years ago, astonished that none of the dishes she had been so certain of making back then remain on the menu today. At first, she treats the changes as an abandonment of ideals, but only after flipping through the ledgers page by page does she see the combined influence of customers, ingredients, and everyday necessities. The two rewrite a history of the menu's evolution, judging no particular year as purer, allowing the voices of the past and the choices of the present an opportunity to explain one another.
