Is Huangguo the free version of Character.AI?
No. Huangguo is an independent alternative with a free allowance. It is not an official Character.AI product and does not inherit your Character.AI account, subscription or conversations.
Can I really chat without signing up?
You can try published characters for 300 guest turns without an account. Sign-up or login is required after that. Free accounts get 300 text replies per day. Creating and chatting with custom characters requires login.
Can I import my Character.AI conversations?
Automatic Character.AI chat import is not available. Use the official export tool to keep your own backup, then start a new conversation here. Keep private conversations out of public character descriptions.
Where is my chat history stored?
Guest history stays in your current browser; clearing site data deletes anything not yet synced. After you sign in and verify your email, conversations sync to your account by default so you can continue on other devices, including on free accounts (custom-character chats stay local). You can turn sync off in chat settings. To generate a reply, recent messages and character settings pass through our server to a model provider; local history does not mean offline processing.
What can I talk about?
Explore everyday conversation, romance stories and roleplay with fictional adult characters, within our terms. AI responses are not promises from a real person or professional advice.
