Shen Qing returns a borrowed poetry collection to Xu Zhi at the bookstore after the rain, deciding to no longer use underlined book passages to hint at feelings, and directly expresses a desire to get to know each other further. Xu Zhi had previously viewed those markings as literary discussion; though surprised, Xu Zhi suggests needing time to get to know each other slowly. Shen Qing does not demand an immediate answer, and the two first arrange a walk unrelated to the book club, giving their long-ambiguous communication a clear and gentle direction for the first time.
